WATERPROOFING INFORMATION

There is usually confusion about what water resistance (or waterproof watches) really means. It is important to bear in mind that, unless depth is mentioned, water resistance means, barely, resistance to water splashes.

Clocks that are marked as water resistant but do not have a depth indicator are capable of withstanding light splashes of water or rain but should never be placed in water. For watches with indications, higher values represent more water resistance. However, watches with a durability rating of 30 metres do not imply that they can be submerged to this depth, as these ratings are theoretical and have been approximated in a controlled laboratory environment by the manufacturer and therefore cannot be reproduced in real life conditions.

Keep in mind that temperature fluctuations and external influences such as cosmetics, dust or shocks from hitting the crown, which can damage the internal parts without leaving external traces, may affect water resistance. Proper care of your watch by following the manufacturer’s instructions guarantees a longer life.

When changing the battery of your watch, it is important that the jeweller makes sure that the watch is sealed properly and with the right pressure to remain water resistant according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Follow the instructions below to select the appropriate clock for each situation.

INDICATIVE GUIDELINES FOR THE LEVELS OF RESISTANCE TO WATER

3 BAR (30m – 3 ATM): rain, humidity, sweat
5 BAR (50m – 5 ATM): warm shower, swimming (no diving)
10 BAR (100m – 10 ATM): suitable for swimming, snorkeling and water sports. Unsuitable for diving.
20 BAR (200m – 20 ATM): suitable for professional water activities and surface water sports. Suitable for diving.

ATTENTION:

No matter how waterproof they are, watches should never be wet with hot water.

The regulating and decorative buttons of the watches should not be pressed under water.
